2016-17 Rules and information available outside the Guidance Office.  Open to all ages 16-18 with a chance at qualifying for the national competition and $5000.

If you have any students interested in attending any of the 6 state universities (DSU, SDSU, USD, NSU, BHSU, or SDSMT) be sure to have them apply this week to save the $20 application fee on up to 3 schools.

The  incoming 2017 Freshmen Scholarship application process has changed for Chadron State College.  No more paper applications will be accepted.

Students must:

**** Apply to CSC  (https://csc.edu/admissions)
****Log in to the MyCSC To-DO List for the scholarship link
****Complete the online scholarship form
****Upload a high school transcript w/ ACT scores to the app.
****If the test has not been sent via the student or ACT it is up to the student to do so before the deadline.
****DEADLINE:  January 15, 2017  Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

Applications for the local $1,000 NATIONAL WILD TURKEY FEDERATION SCHOLARSHIP can be accessed from:  www.nwtf.org/jakes/scholarship.html  All local winners are entered into the $10,000 national contest. Any questions contact Ted Wick at 745-4164.

Spring 2017 Dual Credit for high school and 2 yr./4yr. post secondary school is a great way to get credits at a drastically reduced tuition price!!  Currently a college credit is only $48.33 or literally about $150 for the average three credit college class. Juniors and Seniors who qualify are eligible may register NOW!!

The Dakota Corps Scholarship application, along with the Bjugstad, Fowler/Kaden, and Scarborough scholarship applications are now available on the South Dakota Board of Regents website.
 
**Please note that the Dakota Corps Scholarship will again be submitted to us through DocuSign so it is no longer essential to mail in a hard copy. The student does not need to print the application to sign it, as it can be signed electronically. We do realize that transcripts contain sensitive information, therefore you may send in a signed copy to our office noting that it is for the Dakota Corps Scholarship. As long as the application is postmarked by February 1, subsequent documents, such as the transcripts may follow in a timely manner.

BigSun Scholarship


The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in. Their participation may be in any capacity, whether as a player, coach or official.

 

Deadline        -  June 19, 2017  

Amount of Award  -        $500.00

 

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

Frances Crawford Marvin American Indian Scholarship:  $1,500. Deadline:  2/15/17.  Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Open to tribal listed students for technical or 4 yr. college students with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Sponsored by NSDAR.

 

American Indian Committee AI Scholarship:  $4,000. Deadline:  2/15/17. Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Open to tribal listed students for technical or 4 yr. college students with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Sponsored by NSDAR.

 

Sanford Health Network Chairman's Challenge Scholarship: ​  $2,500. High school students with a future health career plan post high school.  Deadline:  2/1/17.  Applications outside the Guidance Office.

Senior Parents!!  If your son or daughter as yet to create an account with FASTWEB.COM (which we encouraged them to do back in September!!)  it is not too late to do so.  This is the #1 scholarship site in the nation and your student simply creates a profile.  After it is created, notifications will appear on a weekly, sometimes daily basis specific to the demographics of your student.

Better Business Bureau (BBB) Foundation serving Nebraska, South Dakota, The Kansas Plains and Southwest Iowa is notifying you that it is accepting applications from high school seniors for the 2017 Scott Mecham BBB Student of Integrity Awards.

This year, twelve (12) students will each be granted $2,000 college scholarships: three from South Dakota, three from metro Omaha and Southwest Iowa, three from metro Lincoln and greater Nebraska, and three from The Kansas Plains area.

These scholarships are not based on ethnicity, need or grade point average, but recognize students who exemplify ethical behavior and personal integrity, and who demonstrate humility, courage, compassion and respect for their peers, teachers and community — BBB’s values.

Aside from the obvious benefit to the students, this is also a wonderful opportunity for your institution to be publicly recognized. Scholarship winners will be announced in April and congratulated at their schools and in releases to television, radio and print media.

Dakota Artist Guild Scholarships​:  2- $1,000 scholarships.  Deadline:  4/15/2017

Our Greater Sioux Falls #237 NAWIC Chapter is awarding 3 scholarships this year! 
Applicants can be male OR female and should be pursuing a degree related to the construction field (engineering is included).
 
Please encourage seniors or current college students to apply!  The information and application are attached.  Students have been emailed the applications.
 
Applications need to be postmarked by February 28, 2017.

1.  The first scholarship is the "Aspiring Animation Professional" Scholarship Program. This is the 5th year we are awarding this scholarship for AnimationCareerReview.com. We are offering high school seniors the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship.  This will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing an animation career path at an accredited post-secondary school or college. We ask that you have interested students visit our website, http://www.animationcareerreview.com/ to find eligibility information along with the online application. The scholarship will be on the right side of the page and click on it.

2.  The 2nd scholarship was started late last year and is being offered again this year.  "Aspiring Business Professional" Scholarship. This is a $1,000 scholarship that will be awarded to students that are interested in pursuing a business degree at any accredited post-secondary school or college.  Interested students can visit this link http://www.onlinembareport.com/ and find the scholarship located at the right side of the page and click on it.

The deadline for both scholarships is June 1, 2017.

The Dakota Corps Scholarship was designed for high school students in South Dakota to provide full tuition and generally-applicable fees to selected qualified applicants.  This program allows students financial access to outstanding postsecondary education, while encouraging them to remain here upon graduation working in critical need occupations. 

The current critical need occupations for 2017 include:

The South Dakota CPA Society is the state’s professional association for certified public accountants with over 900 members in industry, government, education, and public practice.  Accounting is one of the top professions available today and the Society has several opportunities for you and your students to learn more about our profession.  Many resources can be found on the Society’s website, including our scholarships at www.sdcpa.org.

 

I am including some helpful links to the CPA profession to assist you and your students to learn more about the wonderful opportunities in this profession.

 

StartHereGoPlaces.com – The newly launched interactive website allows students to see their life as a CPA as they build their ‘Future Me’. The site also includes career options, skills, requirements, real-life CPAs, as well as games and contests that feature the CPA profession and the many opportunities of the CPA as a career!

 

ThisWaytoCPA.com – is a newly launched place for upcoming and new CPAs to learn about the accounting profession including scholarships; salary and demand; industries and specializations; and the CPA exam.

 

In addition to these resources there are hands on opportunities through the USD Summer Accounting Institute and the Society often can arrange a speaker for an event.

First Interstate Bank is once again partnering with the South Dakota Bankers Association to offer a $1000 scholarship to a graduating Senior from Hot Springs High School.  Applications are due April 15th and can be found on our website www.firstinterstatebank.com .  Just log in and scroll down to “South Dakota Scholarship”.

Marvin Wilkinson $1400 Scholarship:  Deadline:  April 1, 2017.  Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Requires 3.5 GPA or higher for an Outstanding student in sciences. Return apps to me.

June Wilkinson $1400 Scholarship:   Deadline:  April 1, 2017.  Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Requires 3.5 GPA or higher for an Outstanding Musician (vocal or instrumental). Return apps to me.

Black Hills Pioneers Scholarship:  $500.  DEADLINE:  3/17/2017.​  Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Requires 500-1000 word essay related to a local historical personality, group, ancestor, or significant historical event aspect of Black Hills History.

Bill and Mary Fisher $1,000 Technical/Vocational Scholarship:  Deadline:  April 7, 2017.​  Applications outside the Guidance Office.  Open to any student planning attending a 2 yr. post secondary high school institution.

Along with SF area specific scholarships there are many so listed that apply to students across the State of South Dakota.  You will be required to search through the multiple listings.

WARREN GLOVER SCHOLARSHIP:  $1,000  DEADLINE:  3/20/17​ Mr. Glover was a 1954 graduate of HSHS.  Taught high school math and science, worked in the world of life insurance and owned a "handyman" business.  He enjoyed wood working. Scholarship is based on an essay regarding how your life/goals connects with his life.

Applications located outside my office and must be returned to me by 3/20/17.

WILLARD INCENTIVE SCHOLARSHIP:  Deadline:  4/1/17.​ Applications outside my office and must be returned to me. Open to all seniors planning on either a 2 yr. or 4 yr. post high school education with a minimum of 2.0 GPA to a maximum 3.5 GPA.

Minnesota-South Dakota Reciprocity Applications forms are available through the Guidance Office for seniors planning on attending any 2 yr. and 4 yr. college and technical colleges in the State of Minnesota.

Applications for this scholarship were emailed to all the seniors as of 3/20/17.  Due to the amount of information as a parent I would ask your senior about this $750 award.  Deadline:  4/13/17.  Information indicates 4/15 as a deadline but it is a Saturday!!!!

The HS Alumni Association has changed the format of the 7 scholarships they offer.  This information has been emailed to the entire Senior Class of 2017.  Parents...ask your student for further information for the application is big.  DEADLINE:  4/13/17.

The Hot Springs Booster Club scholarship application is available and this information has been emailed to the entire Senior Class of 2017.  Parents...ask your student for further information regarding this application.  All completed applications are given to Mr. Christensen.  DEADLINE:  4/10/17.
